5th Grade Science Remediation Requirements

To continue providing our students with a quality education during these times of adversity, Macon County Elementary School has developed individualized learning plans to meet the needs of our students. We have reviewed all students’ academic reports. If you received a failure letter, then your student has not fulfilled the promotion requirements and is at risk of not being promoted to the next grade level in May of 2020.

Due to the loss of face to face instructional time imposed by the spread of the novel Coronavirus, the Macon County Elementary School’s Instructional Team has decided to offer students the opportunity to redo and to make up assignments to improve their grade(s) in 5th Grade Science. This is an attempt to assist students in fulfilling promotion requirements.

In order for any failing grade to be recouped, students are required to complete all assignments presented for the listed class(es) no later than Friday, May 15, 2020 by 12:00 PM. Due to the sense of urgency, there will be absolutely no extensions to this deadline.

For 5th Grade Science, students must log onto www.usatestprep.com to compete the assignments. I have selected specific standards that students to complete.

Directions for gaining credit:

  1. Select Science class from the “Assignments” tab.
  2. After selecting your class (Staples), click the blue “Practice” button.
  3. Select the subject: Science (GSE)  
  4. Select the standards that are assigned. Then, complete the work. Students should work on each standard in the following order:
  • Video mini-lessons to activate prior knowledge
  • Vocabulary to become familiar with the academic language
  • Practice questions to measure understanding (Score 86% or higher). 
  • Performance tasks to apply knowledge in a different way
